Cardiometabolism and Systems Pathology

The groups dedicated to different fields of biomedical research come together in Area 5 to address complex aspects of the disease that cannot be characterized independently, as they usually occur in the same type of patient throughout disease progression. All groups have the same goal, to generate clinical and translational projects with patient-centered objectives.

    Dr. Héctor Escobar Morreale

    Dr Escobar Morreale is Head of the Department of Endocrinology & Nutrition, Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal in addition to holding the position of Profesor of Medicine & Endocrinology, University of Alcalá and principal investigator of the Diabetes, Obesity and Human Reproduction group, Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Diabetes y Enfermedades Metabólicas Asociadas (CIBERDEM).

    For the past 15 years, his research interest has been focused on hypothyroidism and female hyperandrogenism, evolving to male and female reproductive endocrinology, obesity and diabetes.

    The publication record of Dr Escobar Morreale includes more than 195 international publications and books, 11.023 citations and a citation h-index of 51 (according to WoS data). Many of these publications are cited in the evidence-based clinical resource UpToDate or the main textbooks of Endocrinology. He has served as an expert reviewer of scientific articles in more than 100 national and international journals. He has also served as Associate Editor of Human Reproduction and as a member of the editorial boards of high impact journals in the area of endocrinology and metabolism. Also, he reviews research projects for the Carlos III Health Institute, ANEP and international public research agencies.

    Their leadership experience in research and healthcare has been internationally recognized by the independent tool ExpertScape (www.expertscape.com) where Dr Escobar Morreale appears as 1st expert worldwide in virilisation, 2nd in female hyperandrogenism, 4th in polycystic ovary syndrome and 7th in hirsutism.
