Computer-assisted simulation and personalised surgery

Multidisciplinary group internationally recognized as a reference in the field of personalized surgery as well as computer assisted surgery especially dedicated to the cranio-maxillofacial region. Experts in the use of intraoperative imaging and 3D printing with special interest in translational research concerning the application of artificial intelligence technology in these areas.

Milestones

  1. Participation in the European project (HE) TechConnect: Assessing and Strengthening Human-Tech Skill Complementarity in the Digital Landscape (101177251), led by the "Biomedical Data Science and Engineering" group (IRYCIS Area 4).
  2. Defense of Ricardo Martínez's doctoral thesis, entitled "Minimally Invasive Prosthetic Replacement of the Temporomandibular Joint Using Customized Mini-Prostheses," supervised by Prof. Acero. This thesis explores the use of customized mini-prostheses for minimally invasive TMJ reconstruction, integrating biomechanics, biomaterials, and CAD/CAM technology. It concludes that the use of customized mini-prostheses for the TMJ constitutes an effective and more conservative alternative, capable of improving function and reducing surgical morbidity in patients with advanced joint pathology.
