Milestones

  1. Final phase to complete the public project funded by the ISCIII (PI18/0032), on the influence of male hypogonadism on cardiovascular risk in patients with obesity and its resolution by bariatric surgery, we have published two papers in Q2 journals confirming the role of inflammatory mediators and adiponectin in the pathophysiology of the improvement in the carotid intima-media index, which adds to the two papers published in the previous year in Q1 journals.

  2. The line of research on clinical nutrition in patients with COVID-19 has been completed, with a publication in Q1 (Nutrients, IF 6.706) showing trends in the use of enteral nutrition in the Community of Madrid during the pandemic years, in addition to 4 other publications from the previous year.

  3. Prize for the best article in the ENSAT (European network for the study of adrenal tumours) working group on Primary Hyperaldosteronism: "Predictive model of hypertension resolution after adrenalectomy in primary aldosteronism: the SPAIN-ALDO score".

  4. The publication "Predictive model of pheochromocytoma based on the imaging features of the adrenal tumours in Scientific Reports (Q1, impact factor 4.996)". Our study suggests that biochemical screening for pheochromocytoma in patients with adrenal lesions <20 mm showing high lipid content on CT could be obviated. It is likely that our results will be applied in the future in the new clinical practice guidelines for the management of adrenal incidentaloma, thus avoiding the need for metanephrines and/or catecholamines, which are costly, uncomfortable for the patient and have a high false positive rate.

  5. Participation in the national registry of the Spanish Group of Peritoneal Oncological Surgery, in which several of the group's researchers are actively involved.
